New microbial life could tackle greenhouse gas emissions

A new micro-organism has been discovered that could help tackle greenhouse gas emissions.

University of Queensland researchers discovered the organism consumes methane and turns it into carbon dioxide, while breathing nitrate instead of oxygen.

The microbial process has the potential to regulate methane emissions and revolutionise biological wastewater treatment.
