New system developed to measure nitrous oxide emissions

A state-of-the-art measurement tool developed by researchers at the Queensland University of Technology will greatly assist countries to measure the level of nitrous oxide released during their agricultural production.

Nitrous oxide, which is generated by nitrogen-based fertilisers, is a significant contributor to greenhouse emissions. By analysing the proportion of fertiliser lost as nitrous oxide, the researchers were able to develop a new statistical method which they hope will greatly increase the efficiency of agricultural nitrogen use, particularly in developing countries.
