Professor of Sociology of Education, UCL

I am a sociologist of education, and Co-Director of the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Pedagogy 0-11 years at the UCL Institute of Education. My research focuses on the relationship between education policy and inequalities in terms of class, gender and, particularly, 'race'. My work examines the impact of policy in primary and early years education, and assessment policy especially, with a focus on issues of social justice. I am also interested in the use of poststructural theoretical frameworks and Critical Race Theory in examining both individual and structural inequalities in education.
