Alicia D'Souza

I am a cardiac physiologist and a British Heart Foundation Basic Science Intermediate Research Fellow at the University of Manchester. My research group focuses on the electrical wiring system of the heart in health and disease: we investigate changes in ion channel expression, and the mechanisms that cause these changes using a variety of electrical and molecular techniques. Our findings have helped overturn some long held theories on conduction system dysfunction, especially in athletes, and our aim is to identify new molecular therapies for heart rhythm disturbances.
