Dr Andy Bown is an applied linguist with over 25 years' experience as a lecturer, language teacher, department manager, and educational technology specialist. Prior to joining UTAS in 2015, he worked in the UK, France, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates. He speaks French and Thai and is interested in all areas of language education.

After graduating with a BA(Hons) in French and Linguistics from the University of York in the UK, Andy began his teaching career in Thailand, where he taught English at a language institute, Stamford College, and Sripatum University. He then moved to France in 1996, where he taught English and developed internet-based courses for Executive Language Services in Paris. In 1999, Andy moved to the United Arab Emirates, where he worked as a language teacher, academic coordinator, IT and Educational Technology supervisor, and English Language/Foundations program chair for the Higher Colleges of Technology in Ras Al Khaimah. During this time, he also completed an MEd in Educational Technology & English Language Teaching from the University of Manchester (UK) and a PhD in Applied Linguistics at Macquarie University in Sydney. Andy joined UTAS as a lecturer in Languages/TESOL in 2015.
