Anja Smith is a post-doctoral fellow at Research on Socio-Economic Policy at the Economics Department of Stellenbosch University. She is a development economist by training. Anja spent the first eight years of her career consulting in the area of access to financial services and financial inclusion, helping to establish the Centre for Financial Regulation and Inclusion (www.cenfri.org) in 2008.
She returned to Stellenbosch University in 2012 to pursue a PhD in Economics, graduating in 2016. Her PhD focused on various topics related to the financing, delivery and user acceptability of healthcare in South Africa. Anja’s post-doctoral research examines questions related to the measurement of quality of healthcare and access to contraception and reproductive care for vulnerable women in South Africa. She is passionate about improving the quality of healthcare and eliminating barriers to heath seeking in South Africa.
