I am a historian of East Africa, and recently completed my PhD at the University of York, where I researched the history of women's writing after independence in Uganda and Kenya (during which time I was also a visiting research student at the University of Edinburgh). I am passionate about democratising historical research outside of the 'ivory tower', and enjoy working across sectors to do so. I have written about my research for non-academic publications, and have spoken on podcasts and television documentaries. I have also worked as a historical consultant to film and TV, with production companies that dramatise aspects of African history.
