My research focusses on a particular set of proteins produced by human retroviruses HIV-1 and HTLV-1 and also on human endogenous retroviruses and their role in placental development and function. As of last year, my lab has been actively working on projects aimed at the identification of new potential inhibitors blocking the initial step of the replicative cycle of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In addition, we have set up a platform using less pathogenic modified human coronaviruses to test antiviral properties of different technologies against contaminated surfaces.
