Bronwen Wade-Leeuwen

Project Manager, Sustainability Research, Macquarie University

My name is Bronwen, and I am an exhibiting Visual Artist, Arts Educator researching sustainability, creativity and reflexive practices in intercultural educational contexts.

My research interests include: Working within the Australian Cross-curriculum Priority areas of Sustainability, Working with our First Nation peoples and our Asian neighbours. Other areas of interest include: how to foster critical and creative thinking skills in teacher education using multifaceted approaches (ACARA, 2016).

Arts are core to an integrated STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and maths) education approach. Wade-Leeuwen (2016), says intercultural capacity-building strategies as well as harnessing the power of visual and creative arts, are fundamental contributors to understanding STEM concepts. Wade-Leeuwen upholds the view of hands-on, experiential and imaginative learning being paramount to the acquisition and retention of knowledge. Her creative partnerships include: Indigenous and non-Indigenous Artists, educators and artists from Mainland China, Germany, Greece, Hawaii, Singapore and Taiwan.
