Charles Ungerleider

Professor Emeritus of Educational Studies, University of British Columbia

Charles is a Professor Emeritus of Educational Studies at The University of British Columbia and Managing Partner of Directions Evidence and Policy Research Group, LLP. He is a scholar who has published on topics ranging from assessment to xenophobia. Charles served as the Deputy Minister of Education in British Columbia (1998-2001) and as a professor for 43 years at UBC. He developed and taught in a school-based teacher education program, was responsible for the design of a revised program for UBC’s Faculty of Education, served as Director of Field Placement for all UBC student teachers, and was Associate Dean for Teacher Education at University of British Columbia (UBC). He has chaired the Association of Deputy Ministers of Education Canada, co- chaired the Canadian Education Statistics Council, and is currently a board member of the Canadian Index of Well-being and the chair of the Statistics Canada Advisory Committee on Postsecondary Education Statistics. Charles also served as former Director of the Research & Knowledge Mobilization Directorate of the Canadian Council on Learning (2005-2010).
