During my years teaching at the University of Alberta my research interests focused considerably on energy and environmental issues. My book Costly Fix: Power, Politics and Nature in the Tar Sands was shortlisted with two other books for the 2019 Donald Smiley prize for the best book in any field of Canadian political science. Outside of academic venues, my articles and commentaries on energy and environmental issueshave appeared in publications such as The Globe and Mail, Calgary Herald, Alberta Views, and The Tyee.
