Ph.D. Candidate in Communication, University of Pennsylvania

Jeanna Sybert (MA, University of Pennsylvania) is a Ph.D. candidate at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania.

Using qualitative methods, Sybert studies how moments of rupture or change shape power and possibility across various realms — from social media platforms to journalism. With a focus on the challenges facing U.S. journalism today, her dissertation work investigates the cascading impacts of an increasingly precarious occupation for journalists, the institution of journalism, and the broader information landscape.

Prior to joining Annenberg, Sybert received her B.A. in Communication & Rhetoric and Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Her research has been published in New Media & Society, Journalism, and Journalism Practice.
