Joshua studies how infectious disease and injury have shaped human evolution. He is also interested in the mechanisms that explain the relationship between social status and health. His research program combines theory development, fieldwork with Shuar forager horticulturalists in the Ecuadorian Amazon, and analysis of large-scale epidemiological datasets.
