Emerita Professor of Psychology in Education, Department of Psychology and Human Development, UCL

Working within psychological and socio-cultural frameworks I am interested in learners and learning in a variety of educational settings. I have researched and published widely on private tutoring, individual pedagogy, relations between pedagogical beliefs, activity and interactions, and ability grouping in schools.

My recent work on private tutoring includes mapping the extent of private tutoring in England; factors that influence participation; perspectives on the quality and effectiveness of tutoring; the private tuition market and wider policy issues.
