Lawrence Mitchell

Lawrence E. Mitchell is the author of The Speculation Economy: How Finance Triumphed Over Industry (2007) (awarded ForeWord Magazine’s 2007 Gold Medal for the Best Book in Business and Economics and the 2009 “IPPY” Silver Medal for Finance/Investment/Economics), and Corporate Irresponsibility: America’s Newest Export (2001), among other books and publications. Before joining the faculty at Case Western Reserve, he was the Theodore Rinehart Professor of Business Law at The George Washington University Law School, where he taught for 20 years and was founding Chair and Executive Director of the Center for Law, Economics & Finance at GW. Mitchell has written extensively on matters of corporate governance, law, finance, financial history, and ethics. A graduate of Williams College and Columbia University Law School, Mitchell practiced corporate law in New York from 1981 to 1987.
