Letitia Meynell

(she/her)
Professor of Philosophy, Dalhousie University

Letitia Meynell is a professor of Philosophy (cross-appointed with Gender and Women’s Studies) at Dalhousie University, specializing in philosophy of science, epistemology and feminist philosophy. Her research addresses the epistemology of pictures and thought experiments (especially in the sciences) as well as feminist critiques of biology. Increasingly, her research has turned toward issues concerning our knowledge of and interactions with nonhuman animals and developing a scientifically robust account of the Gaia hypothesis (in collaboration with evolutionary biologists).

In her more public facing philosophy, she has written several blogs for Impact Ethics, co-authored several amicus curiae briefs in support of efforts by the Nonhuman Rights Project, and co-authored a concise Applied Ethics Primer that offers an overview of the basic concepts and skills required in applied ethics contexts.
