Martua T. Sirait

PhD Candidate in Rural Studies, International Institute of Social Studies

Martua T. Sirait is a presidium member of Indonesia's National Forestry Council, a multi-stakeholder organisation on forest issues. It was created at Indonesia's Fourth National Congress on Forestry. Sirait serves in the council's representing the NGOs and concerned group for the 2011-2016 term.

In 2011 to 2014, he was a forest governance advisor at the partnership for governance reform. Sirait is also a researcher for the International Centre for Research on Agroforestry (ICRAF)/World Agroforestry Centre. He is an advisor for REDD preparedness at Samdhana Institute.

He holds a degree in Forestry (Mulawarman University, East Kalimantan 1990) and Master's in Applied Sociology and Anthropology from Ateneo de Manila University. He is finishing his PhD at the International Institute on Social Science in The Hague in Rural Sociology.
