Professor Burford has a PhD in nutrient cycling and algal ecology.

She has studied ecological processes, including water quality, in rivers, reservoirs, estuaries and marine systems, and published extensively in this area.

She has research expertise in Algal ecology, Nutrient cycling, Nutrients in Aquaculture and Food web dynamics.
