Mohit Kumar Jolly

Graduate Student in Cancer Systems Biology, Rice University

I am a graduate student at Rice University. My research focuses on Cancer Systems Biology - i.e. understanding the complex process of cancer through studying the underlying regulatory networks of genes. This bottom-up 'systems' approach builds on the painstaking efforts of molecular oncologists (who studied cancer one gene at a time) to understand the underlying principles of cancer.

I have been passionate about scientific communication since my college days. I started the quarterly campus science magazine at IIT-K - NERD -to engage students in fruitful science journalism in and out of the campus. Having served as its Editor in Chief for over 2 years, I moved on to conduct workshops on science journalism/communication at leading science institutes all over India.

I recently won Overall Second Prize and People's Choice Award in SCREECH 2013 at Rice University- the competition among graduate students to convey one's research in 90 seconds to the 'public' (students and faculty from all different departments).
