Muhammad Rum is an Assistant Professor the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada. He obtained master degree in ASEAN Studies at the Asia-Europe Institute, University of Malaya. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Graduate School of International Development, Nagoya University, and currently finalizing his dissertation entitled the Politics of Disasters in ASEAN.

He teaches Southeast Asian related courses in the undergraduate level such as Economic Cooperation in ASEAN; International Relations in Southeast Asia; Governments and Politics of Southeast Asia, International Relations in Southeast Asia, and Indonesian Social and Political History/System. His latest publications are; “The Case of Regional Disaster Management Cooperation in ASEAN: A Constructivist Approach to Understanding How International Norms Travel” Southeast Asian Studies, Vol. 5, No. 3, December 2016, pp. 491-514 and The Two-Level-Games of Developing ASEAN Disaster Management Cooperation" in Poppy S.
