Patricia Horcajada

Responsable de la Unidad de Materiales Porosos Avanzados, IMDEA ENERGÍA

Dr. Horcajada (H-index:64) has been involved in the material field for ~20 years, more
precisely in hybrid porous materials. She has conducted research on all major aspects of this field (synthesis/characterization, shaping, adsorption, applications...). With an unconventional and multidisciplinary scientific background (Pharmacy BCs 2001, Material science PhD 2005), she joined the Institute Lavoisier in 2007 as civil servant researcher of the French Scientific Research Council (CNRS) initiating a totally new field, the MOF biomedical application. From 2016, she is Senior Researcher at IME, heading the APMU and supervising a highly multidisciplinary (chemists, engineers, pharmacists, biologists…) research group (https://energia.imdea.org/investigacion-unidades-id-materiales-porosos-avanzados/).
Nowadays, Dr. Horcajada is considered one of the pioneers in the field of porous hybrid solids and their application in biomedicine with great experience in this field. Further, she was at the origin of the biosafe evaluation of these materials, assessing not only their cyto-, geno- & immune-toxicity but also their ADME profile (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion) as well as diverse specific formulations for pioneer MOF administration routes (cutaneous, pulmonary). She has also significantly contributed to the Materials Science field discovering >65 novel hybrid crystalline materials.
