Dr Paul Gregory has a BEng(Mechanical)/BSci(Mathematics) and PhD (Fluid Dynamics) from the University of Melbourne. Before joining the Bureau of Meteorology he worked in the defence, automotive and aerospace sectors on projects such as infra-red radiation modeling, submarine hydrodynamics and aerodynamic optimisation and design.

Since joining the Bureau in 2008 he has worked on several projects including solar and wind energy forecasting, improved tropical cyclone forecasts for oil and gas industry stakeholders and satellite data assimilation.

The Bureau presently operates under the authority of the Meteorology Act 1955, which requires it to report on the state of the atmosphere and oceans in support of Australia's social, economic, cultural and environmental goals.
