Richard Matthews

Associate Professor of Medical Ethics, Bond University

I am a philosopher, social justice theorist and scholar-activist. My research interests are in the nature of violence. I have written a book on torture (The Absolute Violation: why torture must be prohibited. Montreal & Kingston: MQUP, 2008) along with articles on torture, social justice and music education, health ethics with Indigenous peoples. I have also worked as a clinical and public health bioethicist with Treaty 3 and Treaty 9 Anishnaabe people in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. In addition, I have several years of experience in bullying and harassment education for troubled units in health care. I currently teach medical ethics at Bond University, Gold Coast, Australia.
