Associate Professor of Digital Rhetoric and Writing Studies, University of Washington

My research explores the problems generated by the dynamic nature of language, visual imagery, and technology, with a desire to understand how people construct identity and negotiate digital spaces and online dating platforms to find connection and belonging.

As an interdisciplinary scholar, I conduct research through the lens of critical discourse studies, combining mulitmodal and ethnographic approaches to critique power and dominant discourses in everyday language practices. I also do research in the fields of narrative studies, comic studies, and literacy.

My work has been been published in such journals as Visual Communication, Narrative Inquiry, Journal of Interactive Technology and Pedagogy, and the Journal of Children’s Literature in English Language Education.
