Taught at Universities of East Anglia, Glasgow, the Open University before coming to Deakin University in 1977, where I taught for 25 years. Since retiring have been a partner in Sports and Editorial Services Australia which has been involved with the publication of 17 books in the last five or six years. SESA prepared camera ready copy for Hardie Grant's publication of Roy Hay and Bill Murray, A History of Football in Australia: A Game of Two Halves, Melbourne, 2014. Three academic articles on football in Australia and around the world have been published since late 1913 and a fourth will be the lead article in a special double issue of Soccer & Society which will contain the papers delivered at the international Football 150 Conference in Manchester in September 2013. His article on why soccer has not become the main code of football in Australia, published in Soccer and Society has been downloaded from Deakin Research Online more than 4,500 times.
