Chair Professor and Director of Cyber Security, The University of Queensland

Ryan Ko is Chair Professor and Director of Cyber Security at the University of Queensland, Australia. His research on critical infrastructure, homomorphic encryption, data provenance and user data control are central to many cloud security, data tracking and security information and event management (SIEM) tools across open source (e.g. OpenStack, Kali Linux) and industry tools (e.g. ArcSight) today.

He was the founding director of the NZ Institute for Security and Crime Science, wrote the national diploma curriculum in cyber security for New Zealand, and established the New Zealand Cyber Security Challenge – the national cyber security competition in New Zealand. Ryan advises ministers and governments, and has held several directorships and advisory roles across academia, industry, listed companies, INTERPOL, and the ISO. He is a Fellow of Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) (2016) and recipient of the (ISC)2 Information Security Leadership Award.
