Clinical Lecturer, University of Michigan

Tanner Caverly has been a general internist and Health Services Research Fellow at the Ann Arbor VA Medical Center and a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Michigan Medical School since July 2013. He graduated from medical school at The Ohio State University School of Medicine and Public Health, and subsequently traveled to the University of Colorado, where he completed internal medicine residency training, a year as Chief Medical Resident, and a Primary Care Research Fellowship / Masters in Public Health. His research interest involves 1) explaining how interpretation of risk data (by clinicians, patients, clinical practice guideline developers, and health policy-makers) can affect clinical decisions and communication about medical interventions; and 2) designing health system interventions that translate this data in a way that promotes high value and collaborative decision making between patients and providers. He has focused on preventive interventions and specifically lung cancer screening. With this research agenda, he hopes to contribute to creating a clinical environment that "makes the right care for that particular patient the easy thing to do.
