Climate change at the dinner table

A new study confirms what most fishermen and seafood consumers are already feeling: warming oceans have already affected the composition of fisheries catches.

Researchers interpreted data from the thermal preferences of 990 fish species across 52 ecosystems from 1970 – 2006. Most notably, the Mediterranean fish red mullet is now found in the North Sea and Norwegian waters.

Results suggest warming sea surface temperatures are changing catch composition around the world.
