Console yourself: videogames have social benefits

Computer and console games offers many social and educational benefits to gamers, according to new research.

The Edith Cowan University study found that video games often encourage social interaction rather than escapism, as gamers played together and learned to work in teams, resolve complex tasks and develop strategies.

The study said that almost all participants found games were mentally stimulating, educational and reduced stress. The research also found that more than 75% of gamers are over 18.
