Diabetes on the rise amongst the young

The number of people under 40 with type 2 diabetes has increased sharply in the past 20 years, researchers at Cardiff University found.

Between 1991 and 2010 there was a rise of around 270% in this age group, with the average age at which people get the disease falling slightly.

The researchers fear this growing trend could put an increasing strain upon healthcare resources.
