Disabled women twice as likely to be abused

The national Stop the Violence Project (STVP) has found that women with a disability are twice as likely to experience violence and abuse than other women.

This is due to disabled women being less likely to ask for help and when they do, the issues are never adequately addressed.

Only a quarter of the service providers surveyed attempted to identify the presence of abuse and those who did reported 25% had experienced violence in the year before.
