Gun violence linked to your online friends

Who you’re friends with on social media sites is a larger factor of being threatened with gun violence than race, gender or membership in gangs, according to a new study.

The study, centralised in Chicago, found that crime also occurs in patterns. An individual’s involvement in dangerous situations is heightened if your social media networks also partake in risky behaviours.

Chicago law enforcement is starting to use network analysis to target individuals who will likely engage in future violent behaviour.
