Key to croc immune system

The immune systems of alligators and crocodiles have remained relatively unchanged for centuries despite their world-wide distribution.

This new research could assist in conservation and breeding strategies for Australian saltwater and freshwater crocodiles.

The study, conducted by Sydney University, helps to close the gap in knowledge of immune gene evolution. It will enable genetic investigations of how crocodiles respond to local conditions, including susceptibility to disease.
