New link found between epilepsy and autism

Traits of autism were found in all of the adults with epilepsy studied by researchers at the University of Bath.

Their study found that the effect of epileptic seizures on the brain’s social functions explains the subsequent appearance of characteristics commonly associated with autism.

The researchers hope that this new evidence will enable those with epilepsy to access the wider range of treatments currently available to those with autism.
