Power up with new organic long-lasting batteries

New organic, non-toxic, water-based batteries that last five times longer than their lithium counterparts have been developed.

Created by researchers at the University of Southern California, the batteries (which offer an estimated 5,000 charge cycles) could provide a cheaper alternative to lithium batteries, which degrade after 1,000 charges and are much more expensive.

The researchers hope that the batteries will be used in large scale energy production in conjunction with renewable sources of energy such as solar or wind power.
