My teaching and administrative work at Western University (within our faculty union, at the department and faculty level, and in a variety of university-wide committees) has shaped my understanding of the importance of deepening equity, diversity, and inclusion at the university.
As a political and historical anthropologist, my main research is on the tensions and contradictions of early 20th century nation and state formation in Ecuador. That research includes a focus on relations between Indigenous peoples and the state, gendered social policy in urban areas, racial ideologies, and livelihood struggles.
