Senior Lecturer in Psychology, University of Bath

Dr Abbie Jordan is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at the University of Bath and a member of the Bath Centre for Pain Research. Abbie's work explores the impact of chronic pain on young people and their families. In particular, Abbie is interested in examining parenting in the context of living with a young person who experiences chronic pain, both in terms of impact on parents but also how parents respond to their child's pain.

Abbie's work adopts a developmental angle, exploring the socio-developmental challenges (e.g. development of autonomy, peer relationships) in paediatric chronic pain and how these challenges are managed by young people and their families. Abbie is particularly interested in studying the topic of identity.

She is also interested in exploring how young people, parents and clinicians make sense of idiopathic paediatric chronic pain when there is uncertainty concerning its cause and/or prognosis.
