Senior Lecturer in Internet Law, Aston University

Abhilash’s principal area of research is internet law, with specific reference to censorship, children's rights and internet pornography. He has published widely on internet law and regulation and is a regular speaker at international conferences. Abhilash’s current research focuses on the issue of regulating internet pornography generally, and the protection of children in this context. This involves two related, but distinct, areas of study: 1/ the shift of focus of regulation from the publisher/distributor of content to the end user through the introduction of various possession offences for pornography, and 2/ the rights of children to be protected from exposure to internet pornography and other inappropriate content. His new book titled ‘The Regulation of Internet Pornography: Issues and Challenges’ (Routledge) examines how the internet has necessitated a fundamental change in the regulation of pornography.

Abhilash has also researched other associated areas within internet law including online gambling regulation from a child and young people protection perspective, copyright on the internet, and child safety and privacy issues on social media sites.
