My PhD examined the evolution and social dynamics of the 'rock band' as a mode of creative practice, along with its socio-historical context.
Subsequent research has focused on the intersections between music, popular culture, politics and policy. My work includes discussions of the live music sector, musicians and copyright, and cultural policy at national and local levels.
Projects have included work that covers the relationship between the arts and the states, such as: mapping of local and national live music activity, examinations of cultural value and ecologies of music funding, the economic contribution of music tourism, and the effects of Covid-19 on singers, and on local music economies.
