Born and raised in Northern Ireland, I attended Queen's University Belfast as an undergraduate studying Mathematics and Physics. Following an internship at ETH Zurich, I decided to pursue a career in academic research. I obtained a PhD in Nuclear Physics from the University of Manchester, UK in 2012. This was followed by a two-year postdoctoral appointment at the University of Massachusetts Lowell in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory. I am currently a Research Fellow in the Department of Nuclear Physics at The Australian National University.

My research utilises accelerated ion beams to explore various aspect of nuclear structure both near and far from stability. This has lead to improved understanding of exotic structures in nuclei, implications for the formation of elements in stellar explosions and various applications of nuclear science. I am also convenor of the Master of Nuclear Science: Fundamentals of Nuclear Radiation course at ANU.
