Akheil Singla is an assistant professor at the School of Public Affairs in the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions. His research focuses on public financial management at the state and local level, with a specific focus on municipal debt markets and government financial health. Some of his recent work has explored municipal bankruptcy in cities like Detroit, Stockton, Vallejo, and San Bernardino. In addition, he has studied financial innovations like the use of interest rate swaps or other alternative forms of borrowing by state and local governments
Dr. Singla’s research has been published in venues such as Urban Affairs Review, Public Budgeting & Finance, and Public Administration. Before joining the School of Public Affairs, he completed his doctorate in Public Policy and Management at The John Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University.
