Alex Waterman is a postdoctoral Research Fellow in Security, Terrorism & Insurgency at the University of Leeds, having completed his degree, which focused on Indian counterinsurgency in the country's north-east, in November 2018. His research interests include the politics of counterinsurgency theory, doctrine and practice, as well as security studies more broadly. He has contributed to coverage and analysis of the Northeast India (2015-present) and Kashmir (2018-2019) conflicts for the International Institute for Strategic Studies' (IISS) Armed Conflict Database, and was formerly visiting fellow at both the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), New Delhi and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Guwahati.
