Alexander Sergeant

Lecturer in Film & Media Studies, University of Portsmouth

Dr. Alexander Sergeant is a Lecturer in Film and Media Studies at the University of Portsmouth. He is an expert of fantasy cinema, popular animation, psychoanalysis and film theory.

His research examines the history and theory of fantasy cinema, a subject he has published on widely in a variety of academic journals and edited collections. He is the co-editor of the edited collection Fantasy/Animation: Connections Between Media, Mediums and Genres (Routledge, 2018), which received the runner up prize for Best Collection at the 2019 British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies (BAFTSS) Awards. He is also the co-founder of fantasy-animation.org and co-host of the Fantasy/Animation podcast.
