Alexandra Stankovich

Ph.D. candidate and graduate research assistant, Université de Sherbrooke

Alexandra Stankovich holds a bachelor's degree in psychology (Université de Montréal) and a master's degree in ethics (Université du Québec à Rimouski). She is currently pursuing a Ph.D program in practical philosophy (Université de Sherbrooke). Her research, based on previous work in her Master’s dissertation, looks at the marginality of minority groups and the inclusive potential of their claims. She argues that the claims made by marginal groups exert positive pressure on norms (and normative assumptions) and, thus, lead to inclusion. From this perspective, marginality can be seen and studied as an agentic concept of negotiation, resistance and action on norms. Other commitments punctuate her path, as a research assistant and student researcher for the Centre de recherche Société, Droit et Religion de l'université de Sherbrooke (SODRUS), as well as participation in the Comité Équité de la Société de Philosophie du Québec (SPQ), in the Collectif Judéité(s) and in the research’s ethics committee of the Centre Intégré de Santé et de Services Sociaux du Bas-St-Laurent (CISSSBSL), as a substitute member of the public.
