Alfonso is a dually qualified Spanish Lawyer ('Abogado') and Solicitor (England and Wales). For the first part of his career, he was a practitioner and then moved into full time academia.

He specialises in EU law, Sports Law and International Dispute Resolution.

His research interest include European dispute resolution, in particular international private law aspects; arbitration, specially the legal framework provided to resolve disputes through arbitration; and sports law focused on disciplinary, sanctioning and challenges to panel decisions.
