Specialist Care Dentist and PhD candidate, School of Dentistry, University of Central Lancashire

Dr Alice Harding qualified as a dentist with a Bachelor of Dental Science degree from Birmingham University in 1997. She completed her first Masters of Science degree at Newcastle University in Conscious Sedation. She currently leads sedation services for the North Yorkshire Salaried Dental Service. She has worked within the field of Special Care Dentistry since 2000, and was entered onto the Specialist List in Special Care Dentistry in 2010. Her role as a Specialist in Special Care Dentistry, with the ever-increasing elderly population, has evolved to care more and more for patient’s suffering with Alzheimer’s
disease. This sparked her initial interest in the potential modifying risk factor of periodontal disease, and with Sim as her ever-supporting mentor, completed her second Masters of Science in Oral Surgery from the University of Central Lancashire; her dissertation focusing on the association between periodontal disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Her interest in this area has led her to explore deeper into this subject and she has submitted her PhD thesis on this subject.
