PhD candidate, UNSW Sydney

Alice Russo's research focuses on 'endogenous viral elements' in host genomes, which are a fossil record of past infections and reveal new information about what viruses once infected the animal. These ancient viruses could help find a contemporary cane toad virus that could be used to control the population of this amphibian pest.

Alice was the winner of UNSW's 3 Minute Thesis competition in 2017.
