Subject Leader in Pharmacy, University of Huddersfield

Dr Alison Astles is Subject Lead for Pharmacy at the University of Huddersfield, appointed in July 2018. She registered as a pharmacist in 1988 following her degree at the University of Bradford and worked as a community pharmacist, hospital pharmacist, journalist, primary care pharmacist and NHS manager before entering academia.

She completed a Diploma in Prescribing Science at Liverpool University in 1997, an MPhil at Manchester University in 2010 and her PhD at the University of Central Lancashire in 2017. During this time, she worked at the University of Central Lancashire as a senior lecturer in pharmacy practice and at Wolverhampton University as principal lecturer. She worked as a local tutor for the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education, University of Manchester, for 17 years.

Her research interests include pharmacy professionalism, locum community pharmacy, communities of practice and pedagogy.

She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
