Allison Jeffrey

Allison Jeffrey is an assistant professor of experiential studies in community and sport at Cape Breton University. Her research interests include gender, health and wellbeing, physical activity, feminist materialisms and posthuman theory. She completed her Ph.D. in feminist physical cultural studies at the University of Waikato under the supervision of Associate Professor Karen Barbour and Professor Holly Thorpe. For her postdoctoral studies, she worked alongside Professor Pirkko Markula (University of Alberta) on research that used post-structural theory to discuss women's experiences of aging and dance. Beyond this, she is involved in a range of international projects that attempt to broaden understandings around the gendered dimensions and natural-cultural influences that contribute to experiences in sport and leisure pursuits.
