Professor of Criminal History, Edge Hill University

My modified PhD was later published as 'English Society and the Prison' (Boydell, 2003) and was critically acclaimed. I have also more recently published a monograph on the Dartmoor Convict Prison riot of 1932 and interwar penal police (Interwar Penal Policy and Crime (Palgrave (2013)). I am also a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and the HEA.
